Lithuania opens border to Belarusians for “special humanitarian purposes”

The Lithuanian government approved an initiative according to which Belarusians, due to the situation in their country, will be able to enter the territory of Lithuania, despite all the restrictions on COVID-19, said Lithuanian Interior Minister Rita Tamashiuniene. She is quoted by the portal Lrytas.lt.

“Taking into account the conclusions about the situation in Belarus of our working group on assessing the situation with national security, residents of the country, upon a special request from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, may be granted the right to enter Lithuania for special humanitarian political purposes,” the minister explained.

Earlier, the head of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevicius said that the presidential candidate of Belarus Svetlana Tikhanovskaya is safe in Vilnius.
