The Lebanese government has submitted its resignation amid ongoing massive protests caused by the explosion in the port of Beirut, the Air Force reports.

A frightening explosion occurred on August 4 in the port of Beirut, 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate rocked the entire city, killing more than 200 people, leaving thousands of citizens homeless. The substance was stored for several years without proper supervision. The Lebanese took to mass pickets, blaming the corrupt government for the tragedy.

On Monday evening, August 10, Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab announced the resignation of the country’s leadership on national television. At the request of the incumbent President of Lebanon, Michel Aoun, the government will remain in office until a new cabinet is formed.
