The head of the Ukrainian delegation to the trilateral contact group on the settlement of the conflict in Donbass, Leonid Kravchuk, spoke about the condition under which Kiev will resume water supply to Crimea.

In an interview with Ukrainian Radio, Kravchuk said that such a condition could be a humanitarian catastrophe on the peninsula.

“Ukrainians live in Crimea, and if suddenly some humanitarian catastrophe happens, all of a sudden, which is related to water, then we can give water to people,” he said, stressing that this applies only to the civilian population, and not to industrial enterprises or military bases …

The problem of water supply and irrigation in Crimea arose in 2014, when Ukraine unilaterally cut off water from the Kherson region.

Currently, residents and enterprises of the region receive water from local sources. At the same time, the current year turned out to be very dry.

The problems of water supply to Crimea will be resolved within five years, State Duma deputy Andrei Kozenko told Izvestia in February. The issue will be resolved thanks to the construction of new and reconstruction of existing reservoirs.
