The press service of the regional administration reports that this year the percentage of waste sent for recycling has increased to 14%. That is, every seventh ton of 93 thousand collected this year in the Kostroma region went to processing. In total, regional operators sent 657.4 tons of waste more for recycling in the first six months of this year than in the same period last year. But less wastes were taken to the solid waste landfill than before.

This became possible thanks to the persistent implementation of the separate waste collection procedure in municipal areas and the implementation of the activities of the Ecology national project.

The Department of Construction, Housing and Utilities and Fuel and Energy Complex controls the collection and transportation of waste by means of GLONASS satellite navigation in the region. The same system allowed regional operating companies only in July-August 2020 to identify more than 90 “wild” dumps in the region and to liquidate 46 of them.

“The priority task for regional and municipal authorities is to prevent the organization of such landfills. It is necessary to competently organize this work, including with the involvement of law enforcement agencies, in order to promptly identify violators and severely penalize, “said the Governor of the Kostroma Region Sergei Sitnikov.
