The Italian office for the protection of personal data has banned the social network TikTok from using the data of users whose age has not been accurately established, writes La Sicilia on January 22.

This decision was made after a 10-year-old girl died in Palermo in tragic circumstances. According to the newspaper, the child took part in the Black out challenge, where you need to hold out as long as possible with a belt around his neck. The girl’s parents took her to the hospital, where, despite the efforts of the doctors, she died of suffocation.

The child’s parents decided to donate her organs to save the lives of four children.

The Palermo prosecutor’s office, together with the juvenile prosecutor’s office, opened a criminal case for incitement to suicide. Investigators seized the victim’s smartphone.

The ban will last until February 15. In December, the agency also found a number of violations by TikTok, among which it noted insufficient attention to the protection of minors and the ease with which children bypassed the ban on registration of minors under 13 years old.

In January 2019, YouTube banned the posting of videos with life-threatening challenges after the mass poisoning of children with washing capsules and accidents provoked by blindfolded drivers.
