The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case into the death of eight people in a fire in Yekaterinburg. This was announced on Tuesday, January 12, by the press service of the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia in the Sverdlovsk Region.
As the senior assistant to the head of the department, Alexander Shulga, said, a criminal case was opened under the article on causing death by negligence to two or more persons, writes RT. An investigative-operational group is working at the scene of the incident, and witnesses are being questioned. The bodies of the dead were sent to the morgue, a forensic medical examination was scheduled. Together with the police and the Ministry of Emergencies, the source and cause of the fire are being investigated. Other necessary investigative actions are being carried out.
According to the website kp.ru, investigators found cigarette butts at the scene. According to the prosecutor’s office, the fire could have occurred due to careless handling of the fire.
The tragedy occurred on the night of January 12 in an apartment on the second floor of a nine-story residential building on Rassvetnaya Street, the area of ​​fire was 30 square meters. m. At the time of the arrival of the firemen, the entrance was shrouded in smoke, writes the TV channel “360”. As a result of the emergency, eight people died, including a seven-year-old child who died during resuscitation measures. Another minor victim was hospitalized in a state of moderate severity.
Because of the fire, 90 people, including nine children, were evacuated from the house. A temporary accommodation center was organized for them in gymnasium No. 176, psychologists from the Russian Emergencies Ministry worked with them. By now, all residents have left the temporary accommodation center and returned to their apartments.
