In Ukraine, 17,463 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded per day, according to the information from the monitoring system for the spread of coronavirus.
According to the latest data, the largest number of new cases was detected in Kiev (1605), Dnepropetrovsk (1383), Kharkov (1343) and Lviv (1342) regions.
During the day, 10,722 patients recovered, 398 people died.
In total, during the pandemic, more than 1.8 million cases of COVID-19 were registered in the country, more than 1.4 million patients recovered, and 36,779 people died from the consequences of the disease.
On the eve of the Mayor of Kiev Vitali Klitschko called on the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to introduce a nationwide lockdown and restrict the movement of citizens between regions due to the worsening epidemiological situation.
A day earlier, the Ukrainian Ministry of Health predicted a worsening of the situation in the country. The number of cases in Ukraine can reach 30 thousand people per day in the next 10 days, said the head of the ministry Maxim Stepanov.
On April 7, Stepanov announced that the country can fully cope with the coronavirus pandemic by the end of 2021 thanks to vaccinations.
Vaccination in the republic began at the end of February with the drug Covishield produced in India – a joint development of AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford. On March 25, the first batch of CoronaVac vaccine from the Chinese company Sinovac Biotech in the amount of 215 thousand doses arrived in Ukraine.
On April 6, it became known that the American pharmaceutical company Pfizer will supply 10 million doses of its vaccine to Ukraine.
The use of the Russian vaccine in Ukraine has been abandoned. In February, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that “Ukrainians are not rabbits,” you cannot experiment on them. Kiev has also banned the registration of any Russian coronavirus vaccines.
