George Washington University suspended Jessica Krug, an assistant professor of history, who admitted on the eve that she had been posing as black all her life. This is stated in a statement by the leadership of the American university, published on September 4.
“While the university is sorting out the situation, Dr. Krug is suspended from classes this semester. We are working to develop training options for students affected by this situation, ”the institution said.
The leadership of the university noted that the recognition of the Circle has hurt many students, alumni and faculty of the George Washington University.
The day before, in her personal blog, Jessica Krug said that, as a white Jew from Kansas, she had presented herself as a woman of Afro-Caribbean descent throughout her adult life. According to her, deception helped her build relationships with people, and guilt pushed her to expose.
Since late May, the United States has hosted massive rallies against racism, which periodically escalate into pogroms and clashes with the police. The demonstrations were triggered by a series of deaths of African Americans as a result of harsh actions by law enforcement officers.
