In the Moscow region, police officers during 2020, thanks to a genomic examination, identified 15 people who had committed crimes. This was reported to TASS on January 22 by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the region following the results of the expanded board of the head office.

It is noted that in 2020, the government of the Moscow region and the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs implemented a joint project aimed at obtaining genomic profiles of previously convicted persons.

“As part of this work, police officers transferred to the Bureau of Forensic Medicine more than 2.5 thousand samples containing genomic information. According to the results of the examinations, 15 persons involved in the commission of crimes, including grave and especially grave ones, were identified, ”the press service said.

In addition, the head office reported that by the end of 2020, the number of crimes in the Moscow region decreased by 4%. In particular, the number of murders decreased by 15%, the number of robberies decreased by 26%, and extortion by 24%.

Also, the police of the Moscow region in 2020 uncovered 47 thousand crimes and identified more than 32 thousand persons who committed criminal acts.

On the eve of the head of the Moscow headquarters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Oleg Baranov, said that over the past five years, the number of murders in Moscow has decreased by 37%.

On January 22, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia reported that in 2020 22,700 people died from criminal encroachments in the country, another 35,600 people were seriously injured, writes Gazeta.ru.
