In Russia, over the past day, 26,689 new cases of COVID-19 have been detected in 85 regions. This is evidenced by the data of the headquarters for combating the spread of coronavirus infection on Tuesday, December 15.

The largest number of new cases of the disease was detected in Moscow (5418), St. Petersburg (3765), Moscow region (1392).

Over the past 24 hours, 577 people have died from complications related to COVID-19. Over the past day, 24,813 people have recovered in the country.

Over the entire period of the spread of coronavirus in Russia, the number of detected cases of COVID-19 has reached 2,707,945. 47,968 deaths were recorded, 2,149,610 people recovered.

The day before, immunologist Vladislav Zhemchugov said that Russia had already reached a plateau in COVID-19, but the spread of the coronavirus would finally stop only after about 70% of the population faced the infection.

According to the forecast of the chief physician of the Leader of Medicine Center Yevgeny Timakov, the number of COVID-19 cases in Russia will decrease by the end of February 2021, and the decline will begin in Moscow. The specialist noted that this will be possible thanks to herd immunity.

On December 5, in Moscow, vaccination against coronavirus began for employees of medical and educational institutions, as well as for employees of city social services aged 18 to 60 years. From December 14, in the capital, an appointment for vaccination is available for workers of the MFC, culture, as well as trade and services.

Also on December 14, an electronic registration for vaccination against coronavirus was opened in the Moscow region.
