It’s been snowing in Moscow for the third day already, and about 7 cm of snow is expected to fall in the next 24 hours, said on Saturday, January 16, the deputy mayor of the capital, Petr Biryukov.

“Over the past two days, approximately 14 centimeters have dropped out. In the next day we expect about 7 centimeters more, “Interfax quotes him as saying.

Biryukov expressed the opinion that the cleaning of the city is carried out quite efficiently, the city transport works without interruptions.

According to the Moscow Emergencies Ministry’s headquarters, it will snow on January 16 in Moscow, a blizzard and ice will be expected.

On the eve of the head of the laboratory of the Hydrometeorological Center, Lyudmila Parshina, said that in Russia in February temperatures are expected within and above the climatic norm. She also recalled that February is a transitional month – if at the beginning the average daily air temperature is minus 10 degrees, then by the end it is already minus 5 degrees.

On January 14, the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, Roman Vilfand, spoke about the cause of weather anomalies in Moscow. According to him, the snowfall that hit Moscow was caused by the arrival of the Balkan cyclone. Its peculiarity was that first a warm front passed through Moscow, and then very quickly – a cold front. Wilfand pointed out that such heavy precipitation in winter is not typical for the capital region, calling this snowfall a bright phenomenon.
