Coal mining at the site of the Erunakovskaya-8 mine in Novokuznetsk, where three miners were injured and one killed the day before, was suspended. On Sunday, August 16, the press service of the Department of Coal Industry of the Kemerovo Region reported to RIA Novosti.

“Production at the site has been stopped, an investigation is underway,” representatives of the department told the agency.

The signal about the rock collapse was received on Saturday at 16:10 local time (12:10 Moscow time), four miners were injured, one of whom later died.

On the fact of the rock collapse, the Kemerovo interdistrict prosecutor’s office for supervision over the implementation of laws in the coal mining industry organized an audit of the implementation of legislation on labor protection and industrial safety, the press service of the supervisory agency reported.

An internal audit is also carried out by a commission created at the enterprise. According to the Raspadskaya Coal Company, which operates the mine, the rock collapsed “as a result of a seismic event.”
