Tokyo | Japan will host baseball games in front of 34,000 spectators to test measures to fight the spread of the coronavirus eight months before the Olympics, Economy Minister Yasutoshi Nishimura said on Thursday.

The three matches will take place from October 30 to November 1 at Yokohama Stadium, in the Tokyo conurbation. This enclosure, which is to host the baseball and softball events of the Olympic Games, will be filled to 80% of its capacity.
The public cannot currently exceed 50% of the stadium hosting possibilities in Japan due to the pandemic, but the government is looking for ways to ease this restriction as the Tokyo Games, scheduled for July 23, approach. until August 8, 2021.
COVID-19 prevention officer Nishimura said the matches would be “an experiment”.
The governor of Kanagawa province where the stadium is located, Yuji Kuroiwa, said he hoped that these meetings would “make a big step towards the success of the Olympic Games”.
