Rumors are spreading in the Belarusian opposition media and communities about a possible shutdown of the Internet in the country on the day of the presidential elections on August 9 and the next day on August 10.

Oppositionists say that at all the recent large rallies in Minsk, visitors faced the lack of the Internet and even interruptions in the work of regular mobile communications. In addition, they noticed that they began to pay pensions and social benefits to citizens in advance, since ATMs would not work if the Internet was turned off.

The Nexta Telegram channel reports that the Internet may be disconnected as early as Saturday evening. The restoration of its work will depend on the protest activity of citizens.
