The President of Moldova met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu, who is in the Republic of Moldova on a two-day official visit.

Igor Dodon noted with satisfaction the growing character of the Moldovan-Turkish bilateral relations in all areas of mutual interest.

“I highly appreciated the fact that today in Chisinau the first meeting of the Joint Strategic Planning Group was held, which is an integral part of the High Level Strategic Cooperation Council between the Republic of Moldova and Turkey.

Let me remind you that this mechanism was created after the Declaration on Strategic Partnership was signed in Chisinau during the official visit of the President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan in October 2018. The first meeting of the Council took place at the end of December 2019 during my official visit to Ankara.

I sincerely thanked the Turkish government and the Turkish people for the substantial humanitarian aid provided to the Republic of Moldova in the fight against COVID-19, as well as for the assistance in the repatriation of Moldovan citizens blocked by the pandemic in Turkey and neighboring states.

I also expressed my gratitude to Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his support with the purchase of 50 mechanical ventilation devices from Turkey, which are so necessary for our people during this period.

In terms of economic cooperation, I welcomed the fact that Turkey is the seventh largest trading partner (with a share of about 7%) and the seventh largest investor in Moldova. Currently, there are more than 1200 enterprises with Turkish capital operating in the country, and investments in the authorized capital amount to almost one billion lei.

At the end of the meeting, I expressed hope that together we will overcome the problems caused by the pandemic, and next year it will be possible to organize a visit of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to our country, ”Dodon said.
