Deutsche Bahn will not introduce any privileges for vaccinated citizens, – as reported by CEO Richard Lutz. “We adhere to the adopted political decisions”, – he stated. “Not a single passenger can do without a mask just because they can show a vaccination card.”
The corona crisis has dealt a colossal blow to Deutsche Bahn, bringing with it a dramatic reduction in passenger traffic. “In 2019, we were able to carry more than 150 million long-distance passengers – more than ever before,” said Lutz. In early 2020, the number of travelers by rail continued to grow. However, the result for the year is sobering. “At the end of 2020, the numbers show a halving of the number of passengers: about 80 million.”
By 2024, the damage caused to the company by the pandemic will amount to approximately 10 billion euros. The upcoming year 2021 also promises to be difficult, Lutz said. DB Group plans to start making profits no earlier than 2022. Despite a sharp decrease in the number of passengers, the German railway has only slightly reduced the number of trains running around the country.
