Despite the increase in coronavirus infections, the number of sick leaves issued over the past few months has decreased compared to the same period earlier. “During the coronavirus pandemic, fewer employees reported illnesses than in previous years,” summed up Martin Leitch, Chairman of the Federal Union of Health Insurance Fund AOK, to the publication “Welt am Sonntag”.

So, from May to August, the number of employees who went on sick leave decreased significantly. One of the reasons, according to experts, is that residents of the country travel less and more often work from their home office. As a result, for example, the number of sick leaves issued due to various colds since May 2020 has significantly decreased compared to the two previous years. Another reason, according to Leitch, is that many patients try to avoid doctors’ offices whenever possible, for fear of infection.
