While scientists around the world are working on an effective and efficient vaccine, experts at the University Hospital in Mainz said they had discovered a tool that helps to avoid coronavirus infection.

The medication scientists are talking about is a nasal spray. This discovery could be the impetus for the development of a drug that is a means of preventing Covid-19, the researchers said in the specialized journal Biochemical Pharmacology.

The active substance of the medication is inorganic polyphosphates. They are used, for example, in the food industry as preservatives – to extend the shelf life of food. Using computer simulations, it was possible to prove that polyphosphates can also prevent infection with coronaviruses.

A few weeks ago, American scientists already announced that a drug could be developed from nanoparticles that would be used as a nasal spray.
