Merkel described the situation as “extremely serious.” “It is clear that we need to act now,” taking decisive action.
By drastically limiting social contacts, the government hopes to ride the second wave and thereby save the country from impending disaster.
Added additional restrictions for private meetings. Members of two families or households can spend time together in November. All entertainment events scheduled for November will not take place. Theaters, cinemas, museums, amusement parks, exhibitions, brothels, swimming pools, saunas, fitness clubs and other similar establishments will be closed for four weeks. Also, discos, clubs, restaurants and bars will stop working for a month. It will be possible to order food to go.
Wholesale and retail stores are not scheduled to close yet. However, additional restrictions have been introduced. One customer can be located on ten square meters of retail space. Initially, the draft federal government decree referred to one person per 25 square meters.
All professional sports matches will be played without spectators. This also applies to the games of the Bundesliga. Amateur sports in clubs and associations should be discontinued for at least two weeks, probably four. Also in November it is prohibited to accommodate guests arriving for tourist purposes. Business travelers are not prohibited from staying in hotels. Church services can continue, with strict hygiene.
The federal and Länder governments are calling on companies to enable employees to work from home wherever possible. Also in November, it is planned to close cosmetic studios, massage rooms and tattoo studios. However, it will still be possible to visit the hairdresser.
Schools and kindergartens will continue to work in November.
