Chancellor Angela Merkel held a press conference at which she spoke about the decisions taken during a conference with the prime ministers of the federal states to combat the pandemic during the “exponential growth” of the number of infected. Merkel described the situation as “extremely serious.” “It is clear that we need to act now,” taking decisive action.

By drastically limiting social contacts, the government hopes to ride the second wave and thereby save the country from impending disaster.

Added additional restrictions for private meetings. Members of two families or households can spend time together in November. All entertainment events scheduled for November will not take place. Amateur sports in clubs and associations should be discontinued for at least two weeks, probably four. Also in November it is prohibited to accommodate guests arriving for tourist purposes.
