Germany: Lufthansa loses customer confidence

The Federal Ministry of Economics criticizes the fact that Lufthansa has not yet refunded the value of unused tickets to its customers.

“It is inconceivable that Lufthansa, despite massive government aid, has yet to meet its legal obligations and pay its customers their money,” Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Ulrich Nussbaum told Spiegel magazine. This is a “trust issue”. During the negotiations on the Lufthansa assistance package, refunds were also discussed.

After massive flight cancellations due to the Corona crisis, thousands of consumers have had to wait weeks and months for their tickets to be refunded – and many are still waiting. Consumer advocates and aviation rights portals agree that airlines, with a few exceptions, deliberately delay payments. The opposition calls on government agencies to take tough measures against airlines that do not want to pay.
