“It is inconceivable that Lufthansa, despite massive government aid, has yet to meet its legal obligations and pay its customers their money,” Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Ulrich Nussbaum told Spiegel magazine. This is a “trust issue”. During the negotiations on the Lufthansa assistance package, refunds were also discussed.

Consumer advocates and aviation rights portals agree that airlines, with a few exceptions, deliberately delay payments.
