The borders of Germany are closed to citizens of third countries, for example, Russia, Kazakhstan, America. The SPD is demanding that partners of unmarried people living in Germany be allowed to enter, despite the restrictions imposed on the fight against coronavirus. We are talking about partners of German residents living in countries that the Robert Koch Institute classifies as high-risk regions.

The parliamentary group of the SPD, in a letter to the Minister of the Interior Horst Seehofer, stated that many European countries have already introduced a regulation allowing the entry of third-country nationals. The situation in which people are unable to visit their partner in Germany is a “heavy burden” for many.

A condition for entry must be a negative test for coronavirus, made no later than 72 hours before departure, as well as compliance with the quarantine rules of the federal state where they are sent. In early July, the SPD party called for the lifting of travel restrictions for unmarried partners living in Germany.

A spokesman for the Federal Ministry of the Interior replied that the identified problem is known. However, the rules need to be harmonized with other European countries by developing a common strategy.
