The federal states are debating whether to introduce a rule for wearing masks during lessons. The World Health Organization (WHO) has published the latest guidelines. WHO experts recommend wearing protective masks for children and adolescents from the age of twelve. They should be worn in the same situations as adults: in transport, in shops, at airports and other public places. A mask is essential both to protect children and to prevent the spread of the virus.

“Children twelve years of age and older should wear masks in the same circumstances as adults. Especially if it is not possible to maintain a minimum distance of at least one meter, and the level of infection in the region is high, ”says the published recommendations created in a joint project with the UN Children’s Fund Unicef.

Children under five years old do not need to wear a mask. Scientists explained this fact by the fact that wearing a mask may be unsafe for babies. Also, wearing a mask is not required for children with disabilities or developmental disabilities.

Children between the ages of six and eleven can wear a mask – for example, if they are in areas with a high rate of coronavirus cases, or in contact with risk groups. However, in this case, an adult must be nearby to help the children use the mask without hurting themselves.
