In the Republic of Altai, law enforcement officers detained the former first deputy chairman of the republican government, Robert Paltaller, who resigned in April last year. He is suspected of exceeding official powers, according to the regional Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia on Thursday, August 27.

“He was detained in connection with exceeding his official powers during the period of work as the first deputy chairman of the government of the Altai Republic,” a source from the department quoted TASS as saying.

The interlocutor of the agency did not disclose other details of the case.

Paltaller held this position from 2014 to 2019. The official resigned of his own free will. In the course of his work in the regional government, he oversaw the work of the ministries of regional and economic development and tourism, as well as the committee on tariffs and the state housing inspection.

On August 20, law enforcement officers opened a criminal case on the fact of abuse of office by employees of the Saratov city administration. They are also suspected of obstructing legitimate business activities.

According to the investigation, in December last year, a local businesswoman applied to the city hall with a request to lease a plot of land for her to carry out work related to the extraction of mineral resources. The entrepreneur was refused, allegedly due to the fact that the land she needed was located in a special-purpose zone, for which mining was not provided. This refusal, as the law enforcement officers stressed, violated the rights and legitimate interests of the woman.
