Winter in 2020 is likely to be severe, and the first frosts will come in November. Meteorologist and climatologist Ekaterina Pestryakova told about this in an interview with IA “Ura.ru” on Sunday, August 30.
According to the expert, since the summer was hot, a cold winter should be expected with a 90% probability. At the same time, frosts are unlikely to remain throughout the winter.
“The average date for the beginning of winter is always November 7, but in the last decade it started later. I think this year, in November, winter will already begin, “the Federal News Agency quoted Pestryakova as saying.
The meteorologist noted that the Hydrometeorological Center also warned the Russians about severe frosts in the coming winter. In addition, forecasters assume that autumn will be cool. According to experts, warm weather will last no more than a few days, and then it will gradually get colder. The Hydrometeorological Center will release a more accurate forecast in September.
In March, the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, Roman Vilfand, ruled out a repetition of an abnormally warm winter in the coming years. According to him, even global warming will not affect the repetition of the warm winter.
