The first case of COVID-19 among vacationers was registered in Abkhazia. This was announced on Saturday, August 8, by the headquarters for the protection of the population from coronavirus infection.

Currently, 42 patients with confirmed coronavirus infection are being treated in the Gudauta Central District Hospital.

The border between Russia and Abkhazia opened on August 1 after Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed a relevant order.
On the same day, the head of the Ministry of Health of the republic, Tamaz Tsakhnakia, said that Russians who get sick with COVID-19 in Abkhazia will receive first aid on the spot, but the main course of treatment will take place at home.
