Former Minister of Economy of Bolivia Luis Arce, nominated for the post of head of state from the party “Movement to Socialism”, is ahead of other presidential candidates in popularity, according to a poll published by the Unitel TV channel.

Thus, 26.2% of respondents intend to vote for Arce at the elections scheduled for October 18. The second place was taken by the ex-President of Bolivia (2003-2005) Carlos Mesa with a score of 17.1%. The interim head of state Janine Agnes is ready to support 10.4% of those polled.

According to forecasts, the new president of Bolivia will be determined in the second round, since in order to win the first candidate, it is necessary either to enlist the support of more than 50% of voters, or 40%, provided that the gap from his closest rival is at least 10%.

According to the research, if Arce and Mesa enter the second round, the ex-president will become the head of state. If Agnes becomes Arce’s rival, then power in the country will return to the representative of the Movement to Socialism party, which is headed by the former head of state Evo Morales.

Last November, Evo Morales announced his resignation amid protests following his election victory, as the vote count drew criticism from both the Bolivian opposition and the Organization of American States, which oversaw the voting process.

Subsequently, Morales left the country, and Senator Jeanine Agnes temporarily assumed the powers of the country’s president.
