EU agriculture ministers have reached an agreement after long hours of negotiations on a reform of the new common agricultural policy (CAP), intended to take better account of environmental and climate challenges.

“After a long struggle, we have reached a crucial agreement,” German Agriculture Minister Julia Klöckner (CDU) said after a meeting of ministers in Luxembourg early Wednesday, assuring that “ good balance ”had been found between concern for sustainability, ecological constraints and food security. The guidelines adopted by the Member States will be the subject of negotiations with the European Parliament, with entry into force from January 2023.
