MEPs called on to consolidate at the legislative level the right to take a break for telecommuting employees, Euronews reported.

MEPs want to oblige company leaders to strictly observe the working hours of employees, not to bother them at inopportune hours. Some factions have proposed linking labor legislation with an agreement on the digitalization of jobs.

These proposals must first be approved by the European Commission and national governments. Only then will the deputies be able to secure the right of telecommuters to take a break.

As the MEP from Malta Alex Ajius Saliba stated, the legislation was written at a time when digitalization had not yet penetrated into life. According to him, now is the time to give him a “political impetus”.
