The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell issued a statement agreed with the foreign ministers of all 27 EU countries on the presidential elections in Belarus and the situation with protests.

The statement notes that the EU considers the past elections unfree, unfair and is studying the possibility of imposing sanctions against those responsible for police violence, unjustified arrests and falsification of results.

“We will conduct a deep reassessment of our relations with Belarus,” the document also says.

The EU called on the leadership of Belarus to start a genuine public dialogue to avoid violence.
