─ Hello, dear edition of MK-Compatriot!

Thank you for asking you for advice. Because because of the pandemic, you can’t get through anywhere …

The website of the German Embassy contains information about who has the right to enter the country during the coronavirus period. Among those listed there is also a point that it is possible “for citizens of third countries to visit their partners in Germany, with whom they are not in marriage / civil partnership.”

I am a German citizen. My girlfriend is a citizen of the Republic of Belarus. By the time I met the girl, I was just filing documents for divorce. The ex-wife is trying in every possible way to slow down this procedure. In the end, while I am not divorced. A year of separation has passed. The spouse cannot in any way collect all the documents for the settlement of pension issues. I left the joint housing with my ex-wife a year and a half ago. Can I invite the girl and her young daughter to visit? I live in my house and I cover all expenses for my stay. We can prove that we are in a relationship, we have a lot of pictures together. The girl has been stamped in her passport about visiting Germany for the last 1.5 years. How should we be?

─ Dear Alik!

Indeed, there is currently a rule that allows, as an exception, to obtain a visitor visa for the partner of a person residing in Germany. The rule is similar to the rule for spouses.

In your case, it is necessary to collect and submit documents for a guest visa in the usual way with a link to the partnership rule. The link to this must be made in the invitation, which is drawn up in a free written form. Financial guarantees are required as before. And if you have any questions regarding the partnership, you will need to communicate on this topic with the staff of the Embassy / Consulate, providing evidence of the partnership.
