Relatives and friends of actor Mikhail Efremov, who was sentenced to eight years in prison for an accident, are looking for a new lawyer for him. However, the artist himself will make the final decision, said his ex-wife, People’s Artist of Russia Evgenia Dobrovolskaya on Wednesday, September 9.

According to Dobrovolskaya, relatives and friends doubt that Efremov will eventually have a new defender, reports RIA Novosti. At the same time, it is a mystery to the artist’s entourage why he still works with the current lawyer Elman Pashayev.

“I personally have the feeling that it only hurts. I repeat that only Misha decides everything in this matter. We cannot contact him, but judging by the actions of Pashayev, nothing has changed, ”she said.

“We very much doubt that he is a professional,” she said of the current lawyer.

Earlier on September 9, human rights activist Marina Litvinovich said that Efremov plans to refuse Pashayev’s services. The lawyer himself called such statements stupidity.

At the same time, during the process, Efremov already on August 21, he announced that he would hire other defenders, as he sees a prejudiced attitude towards the current ones. Three days later, at the next meeting, it became known that the parties had re-concluded an agreement. Lawyer Alexander Dobrovinsky, representing the injured party, suggested that this could have been done in order to delay the process.

On September 8, the court sentenced Efremov to eight years in a general regime colony. Also, the artist was deprived of his driver’s license for a period of three years. In addition, Efremov was ordered to pay one ruble each to the widow, brother and youngest son of the deceased. The court ordered the eldest son of the deceased to pay 800 thousand rubles.

The court also appointed Efremov a three-year ban on driving after his release. At the same time, the court decided not to deprive the actor of state awards.

The actor was taken into custody in the courtroom. Prior to that, he was under house arrest. The court ruled to set off two days of house arrest as a real day. Efremov was placed in SIZO-5 “Vodnik” in the north of Moscow.
