The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists has called on the Belarusian authorities to release all media representatives detained during the protests that gripped the country.

CPJ Europe and Central Asia coordinator Gulnoza Said said at least 49 journalists were detained while covering protests in Belarus between October 11 and 12, and three of them are still in detention.

“The Belarusian authorities should immediately release all journalists detained during the coverage of the protests, drop all false charges against them, stop harassing media workers and allow the press to do their work without hindrance and without fear,” the appeal says.
