A winter with little snow in Russia can lead to a lack of water in the rivers that feed the reservoirs. This was announced on Saturday, December 19, by the candidate of geographical sciences, teacher of the Chelyabinsk State University, member of the Russian Geographical Society, meteorologist, climatologist Ekaterina Pestryakova.

In particular, she pointed out that in the Urals the reservoirs fed by rivers are small.

“This is scary. Rivers are just beginning in the Urals. This threatens lack of water. And we feed on the reservoirs, and they are small in the Urals “, – URA.RU quotes her.

The fact is that most of the Ural rivers are supplied with snow. According to Pestryakova, European and Asian territories are moistened differently, and low water always alternates with polyhydramnios. She expressed the hope that precipitation will fall in January and the country will not repeat a drought similar to the drought in the USSR in the early 1970s.

In turn, the candidate of geographical sciences, associate professor of Moscow State University Pavel Konstantinov explained that natural anomalies are the result of the mutual distribution of cyclones and anticyclones over the territory of the country, as well as the duration of their stay over one territory. According to his forecast, December will become the sunniest in the entire history of observations in some regions of Russia.

“General trends are moving towards a warming winter season, but such a sharp transition to snowless winters, as was the case in European territory the previous winter, should not be expected, but the general warming trend will continue throughout Russia,” he explained.

On December 18, the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center, Roman Vilfand, warned that at the beginning of next week the air temperature in the Central Federal District would drop by 2-3 degrees.

On December 15, the Phobos weather center announced that several heavy snowfalls would take place in Moscow on New Year’s Eve. The snow cover in the city can reach 13 cm. In the last decade of December, the air temperature in the capital will be 6 degrees below zero.
