CEC of Belarus released data on the level of voter turnout

The Central Election Commission of Belarus on Sunday, August 9, published data on the level of turnout in the presidential elections in the country.

So, as of 20:00, 84.05% of voters came to the polling stations. The highest turnout percentage was registered in the Brest region – 91.97%. They are followed by the Gomel (89.81%) and Grodno (88.81%) regions.

The smallest number of voters was registered in Minsk – 66.10%.

Presidential elections were held in Belarus on Sunday. According to preliminary data of the CEC, after receiving information from closed polling stations, the incumbent head of state Alexander Lukashenko is gaining 81.35% of the vote, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya – 8%, the third place was taken by the “candidate against all”.

The voting results provoked protests in Minsk. Several thousand people gathered in Victory Square. Belarusian law enforcers used flash-noise grenades against opposition supporters. In turn, the protesters began to build barricades from garbage cans.

As a result, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus convened a meeting of the operational headquarters to assess the current situation.
