A total of 53 people were burned to death on Wednesday in the collision of a passenger bus and a van carrying fuel oil in western Cameroon, which set the vehicles on fire, according to the governor of the region.

“The dead are not identified, they are all charred,” said Awa Fonka Augustine, governor of the Western region, also referring to 29 injured “very serious with burns” in this accident which occurred in Dschang .

The governor added that this could “be due to the fog” and that the van had “a braking fault”, according to the first observations.

The 70-seater bus crashed into the van that was going in the opposite direction around 3:30 a.m. at the Dschang Cliff, an area known to be dangerous for drivers due to its numerous reliefs and ravines.

At the end of December, at least 37 people, including 10 women and four children, had been killed in another bus crash in Cameroon.
