Over the past day in Brazil, the number of deaths from coronavirus increased by a record 2,841 cases, to 282,127, follows from updated data from the country’s Ministry of Health.
The total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus increased by 83,926 per day and reached 11,603,535. There are 5,521 cases of infection and 134 deaths per 100 thousand inhabitants.
More than 10.2 million patients have recovered.
Over the past week, more than 500.7 thousand new cases of the disease and over 12.7 thousand deaths were recorded in the country. These figures reach record levels for the entire pandemic in the country for the second week in a row.
On March 12, it was reported that the authorities of the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro decided to impose a curfew due to the spread of COVID-19 in the country. The ban applies to the stay of citizens on the street, street trading, as well as catering establishments.
On January 28, the former head of the Ministry of Health of the Latin American state, Luis Enrique Mandetta, expressed the opinion that the actions of the Brazilian authorities may lead to the fact that the new Brazilian mutation SARS-CoV-2 will cause a “mega-epidemic” in the country.
He noted that while the whole world is cutting off flights to Brazil, in the country “everything is completely open”, and patients are transported to different states, “without establishing cordons for biological safety.”
