US President Joe Biden said Russia’s actions pose an “extraordinary threat” to the national security and economy of the United States. He announced this on Thursday, April 15, in a letter to the US Congress, published on the White House website.

“I inform you that I have issued a decree declaring a state of emergency in the country in connection with an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy and economy of the United States caused by certain harmful external activities of the Russian government,” the statement said.

Biden noted that the “harmful activity” is allegedly attempts to undermine the American elections, cyber activities against the United States and its allies and other actions important for the national security of the country, Gazeta.ru reports.

“Encouraging and using transnational corruption to influence foreign governments; carrying out extraterritorial activities against dissidents or journalists; undermining security in countries and regions important to the national security of the United States; and violation of the well-established principles of international law, including respect for the territorial integrity of states, ”- follows from the letter.

According to Biden, all these actions are allegedly committed by Russia. He pointed out that they pose an “unusual and extreme threat to the national security” of the United States.

On this day, it became known that US President Joe Biden signed a decree on the introduction of new anti-Russian sanctions.

The restrictions were imposed on 32 legal entities and individuals from Russia, who, according to the US presidential administration, “attempted to influence the US presidential elections in 2020, as well as other acts of disinformation and interference.” The United States prohibited its companies from directly purchasing Russian debt securities issued by the Central Bank, the National Wealth Fund, or the RF Ministry of Finance after June 14, 2021. Also, sanctions were introduced against eight individuals and legal entities associated with Crimea, including members of the republic’s government.

In addition, it became known about the expulsion of ten employees of the Russian diplomatic mission in Washington.

The Russian Foreign Ministry warned of a decisive response to US sanctions. The Foreign Ministry also added that the US sanctions course does not meet the interests of the peoples of the countries.
