At least 12 Russian tourists were diagnosed with coronavirus infection in Turkey, Russian Ambassador Alexei Erkhov said on Monday, September 7.

“Now we have 12 of those tourists who got sick. These are at least the ones we know about. Two of them are in a hospital, ten are in isolation in a hotel, ”Yerkhov said on the air of the Russia 24 TV channel.

The ambassador also stressed that the sick Russians felt unwell during the rest. According to him, the Russian embassy and the general consulate in Antalya monitors information about each case of the disease among Russian citizens.

Earlier on the same day, the governor of the Turkish province of Antalya, Ersin Yazici, said that eight Russians who arrived in the country were diagnosed with coronavirus infection. He noted that after the resumption of flights between the countries, more than 336 thousand Russians visited the province. Those who tested positive for coronavirus were sent for treatment, followed by medical supervision.

The governor also emphasized that the hotel room in which the infected person lived is ventilated during the day and then thoroughly disinfected. Only after that new guests are moved into the room.

On September 1, it was reported that 600 people who arrived in the Turkish resort city of Antalya since the beginning of July were found to have fever.

In total, more than 65 thousand foreigners have been tested for infection in the tourist center of the city.

The Russian authorities resumed regular flights with Turkey from August 1. Flights to the UK and Tanzania were also resumed.
