BUENOS AIRES | Argentina surpassed the threshold of 300,000 coronavirus contaminations on Tuesday and recorded 235 new deaths in 24 hours, one of its highest daily tolls, the health ministry said.

Authorities on Tuesday reported 6,840 new infections in the previous 24 hours, bringing the total confirmed cases to 305,953. And the 235 new deaths recorded bring the death toll to 6,048.
According to official data, 223,531 people infected in Argentina have recovered from COVID-19.
Argentina’s current death rate, which has 44 million people, is according to Health Ministry figures 115 deaths per million people, the lowest in the region after Uruguay and Paraguay .
On Monday, a rally supported by the opposition was held in Buenos Aires to protest against the confinement and social isolation measures, considered by the demonstrators as undermining the freedom of citizens.
Containment, which has been greatly relaxed in the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires, but remains stricter in several provinces, is to last until August 30.
