An innovative apparatus for inhalation therapy with nitric oxide, which can be used, among other things, in the treatment of patients with coronavirus, was developed by scientists from the Sarov Nuclear Center, the press service of the government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region reported on Friday, August 28.
It is noted that the Tianox apparatus is designed for the production, monitoring and delivery of inhaled nitric oxide to the patient. The device generates nitric oxide from the ambient air. According to scientists, its widespread implementation will increase the life expectancy of a person, on average, by 2.5 years.
“Tianox is already being tested in the treatment of patients with coronavirus. Experts were convinced that in patients connected to ventilators, thanks to the device, the survival rate increased from 15-16% to 75-76%, “said First Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Yevgeny Lyulin at a meeting in the regional government, where the possibility of using the development of Nizhny Novgorod scientists was discussed in medical institutions.
According to him, the device can be used by intensive care and resuscitation units, cardiac surgery centers, neonatology departments and perinatal centers.
The developers of “Tianox” on Friday met with leading medical specialists of the Nizhny Novgorod region and representatives from other regions and talked about the capabilities of the device and the prospects for its use in various fields of health care.
According to Viktor Selemir, Director of the Research and Production Center of Physics of FSUE RFNC-VNIIEF, the enterprise is capable of producing about 200 such items per year. By the end of September, the first batch of 50 devices will be manufactured. First of all, it is planned to supply them to medical institutions of the Nizhny Novgorod region. After meeting the demand in the domestic market, the issue of the possibility of supplies abroad will be considered.
“Tianox” is protected by four patents of the Russian Federation, passed all stages of state examination and on June 22, 2020 received a registration certificate for clinical use. Clinical trials were successfully carried out at the Almazov National Medical Research Center in St. Petersburg. Currently, the device is being tested at the Academician Korolev Specialized Cardiac Surgery Hospital in Nizhny Novgorod.
The development of Sarov scientists was presented at the International Forum “Army-2020”, which takes place from 23 to 29 August in Kubinka, Moscow Region.
