The organization of the water blockade of Crimea can be compared to a terrorist act and an attempt at genocide. This statement was made on Monday, March 22, by the head of the republic, Sergei Aksenov.

According to him, the authors of such an idea will be held accountable.

“The water blockade is an act of state terrorism, an attempt to genocide the population of the peninsula. I am sure that the organizers and inspirers of this terrorist attack will not shirk responsibility, ”Aksyonov said during a meeting on the situation on the peninsula. Fragments of the video were published on the governor’s page on the VKontakte social network.

The publication is timed to the World Water Day, which has been celebrated by the decision of the UN General Assembly since 1993.

Nevertheless, as Aksenov stressed, the organization and human rights activists prefer to ignore the actions of the “criminal” Kiev authorities.

On March 18, a water intake on the Belbek River was officially launched in Sevastopol. The facility was launched during a teleconference with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

On the same day, the deputy chairman of the Russian government, Marat Khusnullin, announced that an acute shortage of water had been eliminated in Crimea and Sevastopol. He also noted that the authorities plan to double the water supply to Crimea by 2024.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova added that the water supply to Crimea will be ensured, despite the “intrigues of the Kiev regime.” According to her, the construction of the Nezhinsky, Prostornensky and Novogrigorievsky water intakes will be completed by the end of the year. In the next year, in 2022, it is planned to launch two desalination plants. They are already being designed.

On March 15, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced that the government would allocate more than 3 billion rubles in aggregate to Crimea and Sevastopol to solve problems with the peninsula’s water supply. He specified that these funds will be used to search for new deposits.

After the reunification of Crimea with Russia in 2014 following a referendum, the supply of water through the North Crimean Canal running from the Dnieper to the republic was completely cut off by Ukraine unilaterally.

The Russian government has prepared a comprehensive plan to ensure a reliable water supply to the peninsula. Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that the problem with the water supply to Crimea will be resolved and the authorities will not save on this.
