Kakha Gazzaev, an accomplice in the murder of Vyacheslav Ivankov (Yaponchik), was found guilty of committing a crime under Art. 105 (part 2) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, part 3 of Article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder, illegal arms trafficking). He was sentenced to 14 years in prison. This was reported on April 23 by the press service of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

According to the investigation, the motive for the crime was the return of the status of “thief in law” to Simonia, promised by unidentified persons.
“Taking this into account, the site of the attack was chosen, the routes of escape after the crime was committed, the transport and means of conspiracy were selected. The SVD sniper rifle was used as a crime weapon, the press service added.
The investigation established the role of Gazzaev: together with Janashia, they repeatedly went to the Thai Elephant restaurant in Moscow, where they carried out covert surveillance of Ivankov.
In this regard, the court sent Gazzaev to a strict regime colony for 14 years.
Criminal cases against Shadania and Janashia are currently being considered by the court. Simonia, Papava and Butba fled from the investigation and were put on the international wanted list.
On January 14, the Basmanny Court elected a preventive measure in the form of detention against citizens Astamur Butba and Nugzar Papava, who were charged with the murder of Yaponchik.
According to the investigation, Ilya Simonia, a resident of the Moscow region, organized the murder of Yaponchik and attracted several people to commit the crime. The defendants in the case first followed the criminal authority, and then illegally acquired a Dragunov sniper rifle.
After that, the attackers chose a place for shooting near the restaurant visited by Ivankov. On the instructions of Simonia, on July 28, 2009, the perpetrators of the crime arrived at the restaurant and one of them shot at Yaponchik. From his wounds, Ivankov died in the hospital on October 9, 2009.
