In the Irkutsk Region, 14 people involved in illegal logging are awaiting trial. During the year, they cut trees for 2.4 million rubles, according to IA IrkutskMedia with reference to the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region.

Police officers found the illegal carving in August 2019 on the territory of the Bokhan district. Then felling was revealed in the Irkutsk region. The police managed to detain 14 people involved in the theft.

During the searches, eight trucks and cars, chainsaws, radio stations, mobile phones and documentation were seized from the suspects. It has been established that the volume of forest cut down per year exceeds 370 cubic meters. The amount of damage was over 2.4 million rubles.

According to the investigation, the organizer of the group is a 36-year-old resident of the Bokhan district. Criminal cases have been initiated against all participants under Part 3 of Art. 260 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Illegal felling of forest plantations, performed on an especially large scale by an organized group.”

According to IA IrkutskMedia, the damage from illegal logging in the Irkutsk region over the past two years has exceeded 40 billion rubles.
