A couple of contractors renovating a kitchen in Scotland came across an unusual find. Workers removed the floor of the room and found a message from the previous owners of the house underneath, along with a bottle of whiskey.

According to UPI, 35-year-old Craig Harrigan said that he and a colleague worked in the kitchen in a house in Edinburgh. When they tore off the rotten floor boards, they saw tiles hidden under the boards, on which an appeal was made to the future residents of the house. The message read: “Jack and May lived here, three children and a dog. The kitchen was renovated during April and May 2001. All the best, drink to us! ” The message was accompanied by a bottle of good whiskey.

“I called the client who ordered us to renovate, and she said that this is her mom and dad’s old house, which she recently bought, and her father wrote the note. She was one of those three children, Harrington told the Daily Record. “So we cut out this part of the floor and gave it to the client along with the bottle.”

Harrington said the find was one of the most unusual things he found during renovations. But he often finds other items as well. “We do find a lot of old things – packs of cigarettes, candy wrappers,” he says with a smile. – I like finding newspapers the most. Many of them can still be read. “
