In the world, 600,790 cases of coronavirus infection were detected per day. This follows from data released by the World Health Organization (WHO) on Saturday, January 23rd.

The number of deaths increased by 15,846.

Most cases over the past day were recorded from North and South America (325,856), in second place is Europe (188,728), in third place is Southeast Asia (30,295).

In total, as of January 23, WHO recorded information about 96,877,399 infected and 2,098,879 dead.

Most of the confirmed cases of infection were registered in the United States – 24 413 331. This is followed by India (10 639 684) and Brazil (8 697 368).

Earlier, on January 20, the head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, emphasized that there is a trend towards a decrease in the incidence of COVID-19 in Russia. According to her, since the beginning of autumn, the daily increase in new cases in the country has not exceeded 20 per 100 thousand people, which is half the rate in Europe.

The spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes the COVID-19 disease, began at the end of December 2019. The Chinese city of Wuhan became the hotbed of infection. For several months, the disease has spread to more than 210 countries of the world. On March 11, WHO declared a coronavirus pandemic.
