There will be a temporary overnight alcohol ban at popular outdoor locations in Munich this coming weekend. The city’s authorities announced this after a decision by the city council, which was about taking measures to reduce the increase in the number of cases of coronavirus infection to protect the population.
The ban is in effect from Friday evening until Sunday morning in places where parties take place, such as the Isar floodplain or Gertnerplatz. From 23:00 to 6:00, celebrants are prohibited from drinking alcohol in public places. Anyone who does not adhere to the rules must pay a fine of at least 150 euros.
The sale of alcoholic beverages in the party areas is also prohibited – from 21:00. The punishment will cost the violator at least 500 euros. According to the city, a corresponding general decree could also be issued next weekend, depending on the number of people infected with the corona.
City officials have already attempted to ban alcohol on streets and parks throughout Munich to limit the number of outdoor parties. However, the Bavarian Administrative Court ruled that the ruling was disproportionate.
