Australian citizen Brenton Harrison Tarrant, who is accused of terrorizing a mosque on 15 March 2019 in New Zealand, appeared in court on Monday. According to The New Zealand Herald, the meeting will last four days.
The court hearings began at 10:00 local time (01:00 Moscow time) in the Supreme Court of Christchurch, where the attack on the mosque took place. The 29-year-old Australian is charged with committing a terrorist attack, murder and attempted murder. The young man, who was brought from prison in Oakland the day before, refused the services of lawyers and will represent his interests in court himself. The man confessed to what he had done.
The court has already summoned 60 victims as witnesses. The roads and the perimeter of the court’s task are blocked by the military police, and unprecedented security measures are being taken.
