An employee of the Swiss Embassy in Tehran, who oversaw the interests of the United States, died as a result of falling from a high-rise building located in one of the districts of the Iranian capital. On May 4, the agency Reuters writes about it.

The cause of the tragic incident has not yet been established.

The Swiss Foreign Ministry confirmed the information about the incident.

“The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and its head, Federal Counselor Ignazio Cassis are alarmed by the tragic death and express their deep condolences to the family,” the Foreign Ministry said.

The deceased served as the first secretary of the embassy and represented the interests of the United States. Her body was discovered Tuesday morning by a gardener who did not find the woman at home.

The Swiss authorities are in contact with the Iranian authorities on the circumstances of the incident.

In February, Italy’s Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Luca Attanasio, was killed in a militant attack on a UN World Food Program convoy. His motorcade was ambushed near the city of Goma in the North Kivu province near the border with Rwanda.

In September 2020, sources reported that the United States suspected the Iranian authorities of involvement in the preparation of the possible liquidation of the American ambassador to the Republic of South Africa (South Africa) Lana Marks as a response to the assassination of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani. The conspiracy was never realized.
