The ultra-right group Proud Boys (“Proud Boys”) in Canada, listed by the country’s authorities as a terrorist, announced its dissolution.

In early February, Reuters reported that Canadian authorities said the group posed a threat to the country’s security and played a key role in the attack on the US Capitol.

“The recognition of Proud Boys Canada as a terrorist organization will have a huge impact on all political movements within its borders … Freedom of speech is the foundation of a free society. The assignment of the Proud Boys label has made Canada less free, ”the group said in a Telegram statement, although the group’s channel itself has not been verified.

The report notes that “The Proud Boys are no longer in Canada.”

In March, US officials indicted several Proud Boys members in connection with the January 6 attack on the Capitol by a crowd of supporters of the former US president, Reuters reported.

On January 20, it became known that Proud Boys organizer Joseph Biggs was detained in the case of the storming of the Capitol building in Washington.

On January 6, supporters of former American President Donald Trump burst into the US Congress building in Washington during the approval of the results of the presidential election by the senators.

Five people were killed in the riots, including a policeman. At least 300 people entered the Capitol building that day. In connection with the events in Washington, the FBI opened over 160 criminal cases.

Following the riots, the United States House of Representatives voted to pass a resolution to impeach Trump for “incitement to mutiny.”

In his farewell speech as President, Trump condemned the storming of the Capitol and said that “all Americans were horrified” of what happened.
