The US could ease sanctions against Iran if the country returns to the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan (JCPOA), which aims to resolve the crisis over Tehran’s nuclear developments. This was announced on Wednesday, March 10, by the United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken during a speech at a hearing in the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Congress, the Izvestia TV channel reports.

When asked by Congressman Brad Sherman about the readiness to ease restrictions on the observance of the JCPOA or movement in negotiations with Tehran on this issue, Blinken only answered “yes”.

Sherman also asked about guarantees of no concessions to Iran for the sake of simple organization of negotiations. Blinken said he could guarantee it.

On March 5, it became known that US President Joe Biden extended the sanctions regime against Iran for another year. It is clarified that the restrictions have been extended until March 15, 2022. The sanctions regime against the Islamic republic was introduced in 1995 by the administration of President Bill Clinton.
